A tractor is the most suitable vehicle for transporting equipment, water tanks and people over this kind of terrain
The Friends of Verloren Valei executive committee is committed to raising the necessary funds to purchase a second-hand tractor, desperately needed by the reserve. They have been without a tractor – and a bakkie – for quite a while now, and it appears that no budget to purchase a replacement tractor is forthcoming from MTPA.
A tractor is the most effective vehicle for negotiating the steep and rocky terrain pulling a trailer full of firefighting equipment and large tanks of water, as well as staff – all this is needed to burn firebreaks, fight runaway fires and perform routine maintenance on the reserve.
We have been fortunate to have received already generous donations from a few individual members, as well as from the SA Field Trials Club and the Mackenzie Foundation. But we are way off the R200 000 we need to collect to buy a good second-hand tractor and a water bowser.
We are trying to get support via crowdfunding on the BackaBuddy site – the link is below. Please consider donating and disseminating the link to your friends and relations. This essential equipment will make an enormous difference to the reserve management team, which has been virtually hamstrung for many months.
As always, we can issue a Section 18(a) certificate so your donations are tax-deductible.
